The Hive is a group of multidisciplinary artists from different fields and walks of life that have come together with the purpose of helping other under appreciated multimedia artists get a leg up in this world which is over-cluttered with competing creative people. The Hive and its members function loosely under the principals of Ro-punk. This is short for Romantic Punk. We're romantic because we believe that there is always hope, and punk because this hope does not come from willful ignorance of hardships but from embracing and accepting that life is challenging and still maintaining that flicker of hope. Ro-Punk is a collaborative realistic approach to dreamers' lives.
Currently The Hive functions with musicians, visual artists, writers, theater performers, photographers, trapeze and silk aerialists. We are always looking to expand, and wish to include over time more mediums such as film, metal & clay work, sculpting, architecture, and any other medium that might cross our path and prove to have a few good people seeking to create for the joy of creating. Anyone with a true dedication to their craft, a good sense of community and a general love for life and the well being of others are welcome.
The larger plan is to create a community and support organization around these different multidisciplinary artists in different cities with actual locations that provide work space, temporary living space, materials, workshops, and creative/administrative advice for Hive members. In addition these locations would be open to the public in terms of free or low cost workshops, low cost photo developing workspace, rehearsal and studio space, as well rooftop gardens to help provide for a small cafe which will be supplied by local microbreweries and wine merchants to provide affordable creative space for those who live in the neighborhood and just wish to stop by and have some peace and quiet to work in.
Current cities where small Hive networks are starting include New York City, Philadelphia, and Richmond. Cities in the long run which are being considered in which we hope to establish Hives within the next year include New Orleans, Montreal, Toronto, Stockholm, Berlin, Barcelona, Lima, and the town of Oaxtepec in Mexico.

HISTORY OF THE BROOKLYN HIVE
In Brooklyn, NY, a group of musicians from around the world came together to form a musical group called Yula and the Extended Family.
Before we knew it, The Extended Family had grown fast by expanding beyond music to other forms of art: Literature, animation, theater, dance, film, urban agriculture and sustainable technology, and fine art. It had become a vaster entity. It created the spark of an idea that came to known as THE HIVE - A place you can find what you need to further your vision; A creative body made of smaller comb like bodies, each creating its own “honey” (art, music, poetry, locally and organically grown food), and constantly moving it around to share and create more combs; little worlds keeping the principle of good-will, joy of creating, and self/mutual responsibility.
In every age group, ethnicity, or social status we can find those who have an artistic vision, but don’t have the support to make it a reality. Self expression is key in creating a better society; a positive, tolerant one. Self expression boosts our self confidence, calms our souls, and reduces negative emotions of frustration, confusion, and conflict. We can’t change the entire world, but we can start walking toward a better one.
